I am inspired by my personal history and nature. I create series of works using symbols to express my feelings about my experience of the world and the universality of birth, growth, death and decay.
I have been asked, “Why is there so many different types of art work as if done by different artists.” To me it’s simple. The world gives as a lot, just like stones, trees, different animals and humans so I am the world too. I should be able to produce different things because we all speak different languages but the translation is the same.
In Lucy’s work, nothing is wasted; objects are symbolic, distortions are symbolic, colours are symbolic, and rarely do we see such uniqueness, adventurousness and variety in a young artist’s oeuvre. Rarer still is too see such a high success rate with clearly experimental pieces.
